The nine-day long event celebrates what Chinese community believes, the self-denial from meat and alcoholic beverages during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar will assist them in attaining peace of mind and healthy existence.
The origin of the festival is not clear, however believed that an unknown Chinese group who suffered from malaria possibly bought the festival on the island during their short stay in Phuket.
